Today, the faces of all Ibadan Indigenes both at home and abroad will be brimming wide with smiles as the brown roof city finally welcomes its new Olubadan.

The coronation of Chief Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogungunniso 1 as the 41st Olubadan of Ibadan is finally set to take place at the ancient Mapo Hall amidst dying controversy. Despite a lawsuit that was filed against the installation of the Chief Saliu Adetunji  by Chief Oyediji of the Seriki line, the ceremony is set to continue with many important dignitaries from far and wide including the Governor of the state, Chief Abiola Ajimobi expected to be in attendance.

In honor of this day, the state government has declared a public holiday so as to that every Ibadan indigenes get the chance to witness the coronation of their new king. Also, the government has decided to expand the palace home of the new king at Popoyemoja so as to make it more befitting to his status.

About 25 top musicians including Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, Muri Thunder, Sule Malaika, Obesere, Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency and so on are expected to perform at the after-coronation ceremony which is billed for the Lekan Salami Stadium at Adamasingba. The concert is meant to pay homage to the new traditional ruler of the city, who himself owned the music record label that was responsible for discovering the aforementioned Fuji maestro, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall.

High Chief Saliu Adetunji's story to the throne started in '76 when he became Mogaji (the head of his household) before then becoming Jagun Balogun in 1978. He had to climb through 23 rings of hierarchy before becoming the Balogun of Ibadan in 2015 - and from there, the Olubadan of Ibadan.

Over 200 indigenous clubs under the aegis of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) and socio-cultural organizations will be participating in the coronation events which will include traditional rites and rituals typical of this type of royal installation.
