On your marks, get set and Go…

The stage is set for the 8th edition of the Splash FM Integrity Marathon race which is set to hold on the 20th of March 2016. The race remains the only consistent marathon in Nigeria and a great source of pride to local indigenes. Not just that, the marathon attests to the stability and credibility of the Splash FM brand because of its sustainability in a porous Nigerian business milieu.

The maiden edition was held back in 2009 and had over 600 athletes from Nigeria and other African countries in participation. The race was created as commemoration for the founding day of the radio station but has since blossomed into a grand spectacle, one that is graced by some of the best long distance runners within and outside the country. The radio station has since collaborated with credible bodies like the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) together with the National Sports Commission (NSC) to help sensitize Nigerians on the fight against corruption. The race itself stands as a metaphor for fighting corruption, which is one of the main bane of Nigeria’s development in over six decades
Over the years, there has been a significant improvement in the quality of the race and the organization but the vision and purpose has remained unchanged - "that the corruption crusade is like a marathon; long, tasking, energy-sapping and it's only the brave and the committed who can see the race to its end. Thusly, apart from breeding marathoners that will represent Nigeria at the world stage, the race helps in propagating the anti-corruption war via the principle of the marathon race".
The last edition witnessed the highest number of participants, with about 1000 athletes competing together in the race. This year's edition has been revamped and is dubbed “Running for a Cause”. This time , a certain amount of money is being allotted for winners of certain categories (e.g. an Orphanange). One can then decide to run in this category with their winning proceeds donated to this category (in this case, orphanage). This is meant to serve as an avenue to give back to the society while also encouraging altruism among Nigerians.

The race kicks off at the Obafemi Awolowo, Stadium (old Liberty Stadium) at 7AM. For more info, visit www.splashintegritymarathon.com.
