A 40th minute penalty by Wasiu Jimoh was all that the Shooting Stars of Ibadan needed to secure the maximum 3 points against visiting Rivers United.

The lunchtime kickoff was a heated affair, one which saw debutant Ofem Inah of Rivers United pick up a straight red card after upending Najeem Olukokun of Shooting Stars in the box. Before the penalty incident, the hosts were struggling to repel the attacks and indeed, Rivers United had missed two clear chances from star duo,  Chukwunonso Okonkwo and Guy Kuemian.

The showdown resumed at the second half, and despite being a man down, Rivers rallied and almost got their equalizer when Yusuf Jaiyeola headed just wide of the goal. At the end of the match, Coach Ikhana attested to the strength of the visitors, baring the fact that two teams (Sharks and Dolphins United) had been combined together to form this new Club at the beginning of the season.

The Head Coach of the visiting team also shared similar sentiments claiming that they were unlucky not to have at least earned a draw. This win takes 3SC to 8th place on the NPFL table with two matches in hand.
