Polo, the game of champagne and marquees where princes and emperors thunder across manicured lawns on thoroughbred horses found its way back to the Oyo state capital this January as the Ibadan Polo Club tourney kicked off in style on the 23rd of January. 

This year, the city’s played host to other teams from Kano, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja and more with the final taking place on the 29th and the Lagos polo team running out as the eventual champions. Unknown to many, the state governor Abiola Ajimobi is a huge fan of the game and was ably represented by during the opening ceremony of the competition. 

Before the competition, the crowd were encouraged to take part in the raffle draw and at the presentation of awards and gifts, the Polo Club Ibadan gave away plane tickets to anywhere in the world, courtesy of Qatar Airways as well as free GoTV decoders, furniture and a lot  to those who were lucky to win the raffle. 

Speaking after the tournament, club president, Mr Adesina Adegunle vowed to continue the good work and also to make the club famous and more sophisticated during his tenure.
